Recent Events

Now that’s Italian!!! The last two evening events at the club had an Italian flair. The Pizza night FNSS was enjoyed by over 60 people and our hosts, Mike and Barabara Amato and Karen and Mike Buonomo, did a great job organizing and setting out the food. (The homemade salad was yummy!) Italian night was another hit with delicious food catered by Bruno’s. Thanks to our chairs, Denise and John Harsch, and their committee for a job well done (especially in that heat)! Thanks, too, to Bill Meekings and the tent committee for putting up and taking down the tents in the oppressive heat. Music by the Doo Wop Brothers was enjoyed by over 85 attendees.

Our Ladies’ Lunch was fun with Janet Ay teaching us to play Bunco and Karen Buonomo and Ann McNeil hostessing. Thanks ladies. We had a great time. The food (provided by all who attended) was fit for a queen! Such a delicious variety! Look for upcoming info regarding our August luncheon soon.

Don’t forget our next event, The Beef Bonanza, on August 6.

The Club was hopping with this weekend’s Fourth of July activities. The Family Fun Day was attended by a group of enthusiastic families starting with the Pancake Breakfast and into the Kid’s Party. The Big Kid Event was not well attended so we’ll have to rethink that part of the day. Thanks to Tom Crawford for his efforts. Thanks to the McArdles and the Pancake Breakfast committee for a delicious breakfast and to Dawn and Val Brewster and their committee for giving of their time and talents for a successful Kid’s Party. They have a beautiful piñata every year handmade by Val—this year’s was a great green monster! The kids chanted “no more duct tape” as she tried to keep the candy inside to make him last through the line! It was great fun! And last but not least the Independence Day Dessert & Fireworks gathering was enjoyed by all thanks to Evelyn and Phil Stern and their committee. It’s people like these that make our social events a success and the membership appreciates their efforts.

July 23 – Italian Night (rsvp to the Harschs by 7/18 )

As you can see, we have a busy July planned and an even busier August, so come out and join the fun!

Wow! The Mummers Magic Party was quite a hit thanks to a job well done by the Merkerts and their committee. About 60 members attended and sang and danced to the music of the Happy Days String Band (7 musicians and 3 mummers). We’ll definitely bring them back next year. The food was delicious with Philly favorites like pretzels, mini cheesesteaks, hoagies and desserts (Maryann Burnet even cooked up some scrapple for us to try). Thank you to all who volunteered to help.

Don’t forget the exciting weekend we have coming up. The Family Fun Day is Saturday, July 2, starting with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30, Kid’s Party from 11:00 and then Big Kid’s water games from 1:00. If you have a kayak, please bring your paddles and life vests although we have some equipment available for the kayak races. Kids bring your boogie boards for racing. It should be a fun day!

Come watch the Fireworks on Monday evening, July 4! The flyer is attached for that event as well.

Sad News

Fellow members,

It is with deepest sadness that I bring you the news of the passing of yet another of our most cherished members. Bob Berdick passed away at home on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Bob could always be counted on to maintain a daily vigil over the club, especially during the winter months; and he was one of the first to check on the safety of the boats when nor'easters hit the island. He reassured all of us that all would be well and gave me words of encouragement on my new role as Commodore as recently as this past Saturday night at the Club. Along with Miriam, we will all miss his quiet concern for all of us.

A viewing will be held at Shinn's Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin 08050, on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 4 to 7 PM.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Spray Beach Chapel, 23-24th Street, Spray Beach on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 11 AM; a reception will follow at the BHPYC clubhouse.

In lieu of flowers, Miriam has requested that a donation be made to: WYRS, -FM 90.7,Christian Radio, P.O. Box 730, Manahawkin, 08050.

Sad News

Fellow Members of the Beach Haven Park Yacht Club:

It is with the deepest sadness that I announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Enders, a well-loved member of the Club, on May 17, 2011.

Friends may call at the Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly, NJ on Friday May 20th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 21st at 9:30 AM at Mt Carmel R.C. Church in Tenafly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The St Ceclia Office of Concern, 55 Demarest Avenue, Englewood, NJ 07631.

Our condolences reach out to her daughters, Judy Danese (Mark), Carol Peterson (Fred), and Joanne Barnes (Michael), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her infectious smile, love of life, and magnificent personality will be greatly missed at the Club. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered on behalf of the Beach Haven Park Yacht Club for Betty at St Francis R.C. Church, Brant Beach, LBI, NJ, on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 10:00 A.M.

Saltwater Registry

New Jersey has implemented a FREE Registry System for all saltwater anglers effective 5/5/2011. The only way to register is via the Internet at www.saltwaterregistry.nj.gov.

All anglers over 16 must have the NJ Registry certificate, even if they are registered in another state. Fines for lack of compliance are very steep....$300 to $3,000 for 1st time offenders; $500 to $5,000 for second offenses....you print out your own certificate and can have it laminated...it must be in your posession regardless if you are fishing in tidal waters from a boat or on-shore.Have a safe and prosperous fishing season............Commodore Bob McArdle
